First United White Rock’s Outreach Ministry works to partner with other churches and community groups to support those in need from poverty, homelessness, and social isolation. Three such programs offered through First United Church include:
Our dinner teams take a break during the summer months. But from October to June, Community dinners (held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from October to June) offer delicious home-cooked meals and friendly companionship around the table. These meals are supported through donation, and hosted by people from Crescent, First and Sunnyside United Churches. All are welcome. We need volunteers for the upcoming season so if you’re interested, call our office.
EXTREME WEATHER EMERGENCY SHELTER
During the winter months, volunteers and the staff from Hyland House Shelter provide a safe, warm place to stay for people who are homeless. The shelter opens as needed.
Scouts and Guides
First United Church is a proud sponsor of the boys and girls taking part in Scouts, Pathfinders, Beavers, and Cubs all of whom regularly meet at the church. Their schedules and contact information can be found on this website under Events.
First United embraces the vision of support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Al-Anon for their commitment to helping people recover from addiction and the hurt it can cause to individuals and families. There are several support groups that use the First United rooms for meetings. Check their schedules on the Events page here.
CHRISTMAS DAY DINNERS
Christmas Day Dinners are served mid-day at the church hall on December 25th and all are welcome to enjoy a full course traditional Christmas dinner with family, friends and neighbours. The dinner is supported through donations and funds from our partner churches and other Peninsula community groups.
BREAKFAST IN BETHLEHEM
Every year First United Church hosts a breakfast catering to children and their families to celebrate the birth of Jesus through dramatic storytelling, hymns and carols.
